TOKYO: Casio’s latest addition to its G-SHOCK series of watches has been produced in collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation, an environmentally conscious group that works to protect the oceans.
The shock-resistant G-5600SRF also aims to be friendly to the environment, with a bezel and band made from recycled resin scraps recovered from Casio manufacturing facilities. The scrap resin is finely shredded, mixed into a base material and then molded into the necessary components.
On top of that, the watch features a solar charging system that generates power from both the sun and fluorescent lamplight, eliminating the need to regularly replace the battery, and the paper packaging is made from recycled paper.
The Surfrider Foundation logo is placed on the dial and case back, and the hashtag #oceanfriendlylifestyle is printed on the band. Casio hopes these features will influence people to protect the environment, particularly the oceans.
The Surfrider Foundation is a non-governmental environmental protection organization founded in California in 1984 that started off as a voluntary initiative by surfers in California to check water quality at surf spots. It now has around 250,000 supporters in 23 countries around the world.
The new watch is water–resistant to 200 meters and features a stopwatch, timer, alarm, calendar, LED backlight, and several different languages.
