DUBAI: Chef Gucci is a Japanese chef from Gifu prefecture with over 7 years of cooking experience in Michelin restaurants in Japan and France.

“From a young age, I was going to various restaurants, which sparked my interest in cooking,” the chef told Arab News Japan. “The first person to teach me how to cook was my mother.”

“I began working as a professional chef after graduating from culinary school at the age of 19. My specialty lies in French cuisine. Amidst the demanding daily workload, I focused on how to efficiently deliver better dishes. I paid particular attention to communication with colleagues, emphasizing teamwork and collaboration in the kitchen,” he added.

The Japanese chef shared that when he was in France, his school’s curriculum offered an option to work in local restaurants. “Initially, language barriers posed challenges in France, but over time, I adapted and became a valuable team member.”

Moreover, he also secured a position at a renowned establishment through a friend’s recommendation. “In Tokyo, I started with basic tasks, gradually earning trust through meticulous work, eventually being entrusted with more complex responsibilities and overseeing all sections.”

Chef Gucci was part of a recent collaboration event with JIMOTO restaurant in Dubai. “This was my first visit to the Middle East. I’ve observed that locals place great importance on family, similar to Japanese culture. The religious aspects are new to me, providing fresh learning experiences daily. Regarding cuisine, encountering unfamiliar ingredients and dishes has been educational. The prevalent use of spices here inspires me to consider how to incorporate them into my own cooking. Studying diverse culinary cultures is truly enjoyable.”

“I’m delighted to share that attendees were very pleased with the event. Many foreign guests experienced these flavors for the first time, and I’m happy to report that a large number of them enjoyed the dishes,” he added.

Regarding his upcoming activities, Gucci said, “I plan to collaborate with various partners, including JIMOTO, to host a range of culinary events and introduce my cuisine to a broader audience, as well as establish my private dining services as a solid business, allowing a wider audience to experience my cuisine. Additionally, I plan to engage in various endeavors such as culinary supervision and menu development.”
