TOKYO: The Embassy of Palestine in Tokyo has held a special event to commemorate the Nakba, showcasing Palestine’s rich heritage, especially that of ancient dress representing the various cities of Palestine.

On the sidelines of this event was a unique exhibition featuring the art of Palestinian embroidery woven alongside the elegance and traditions of Japanese obi, a collaboration that reflects the deep cultural ties and communication between the two peoples.

In his address to the attendees, Palestinian Ambassador Walid Siam noted that embroidery is more than just embroidery. It is an art that vividly symbolizes our culture, memory and resistance, he said. “Each stitch carries the story of a village, a generation, a struggle, and hope for a better future. It speaks when words fail to express what is on the minds of our people, reminding them of who they are and where they come from.”

Ambassador Siam added: “This collaboration is more than aesthetic; it is symbolic, as it demonstrates how two rich cultures, from different corners of the world, can come together in harmony and mutual respect. It is the thread that connects people to each other.”

Siam thanked the Libyan Ambassador and his country’s embassy for hosting and supporting the event. He expressed his deep gratitude for the efforts made by Ms. Yamoto and Ms. Haikawa to bring this vision to life, as well as the volunteers who added a professional touch to the event.

In concluding his speech, Siam emphasized the importance of continuing to honor heritage, craftsmanship and cross-cultural communication, believing that every step and every stitch contributes to strengthening ties between peoples and consolidating the values of identity and resilience.
