The Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector in Dubai Economy has launched an updated version of its ‘IP Gateway’, which is now available in five languages including Japanese.

Arab News Japan spoke to Ahmad Al-Roum Al-Muhairi, Senior Manager of Trademark & Commercial Agencies Dispute in Dubai Economy, about the introduction of the Japanese language on the portal.

“Japanese is one among the five languages on the IP Gateway now, chiefly because of the substantial number of Japanese trademarks registered with the UAE Ministry of Economy and the sizeable number of Japanese commercial agencies registered in the UAE.”

Al-Muhairi added, “Besides, JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) is active in spreading awareness about the importance of IP among the public and corporate entities.”

Currently, Japanese brands account for 4.78% (25 files) of the active files on IP Gateway. The Intellectual Property Department, within the CCCP Sector in Dubai Economy, organizes workshops for international commercial attaches, commercial agencies, and trademark representatives to introduce the IP gateway.

The IP Department introduced the IP gateway to Japan IP group in a meeting organized by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). “We work closely with JETRO and share updates on infringement cases related to the Japanese trademarks registered in the UAE,” Al-Muhairi said.

The IP Gateway is part of the efforts of Dubai Economy to enhance business competitiveness in Dubai and extend 24/7 Intellectual Property (IP) protection services to trademark owners and commercial agencies anywhere in the world without having to visit any service center.

Dubai Economy (Department of Economic Development – Government of Dubai) is the government body entrusted to set and drive the economic agenda of the emirate of Dubai, UAE.

All IP Gateway transactions are completed smartly without the need for customers to visit Dubai Economy.

Al-Muhairi stressed that opinions and suggestions of IP owners and their representatives will be appropriately factored in developing and improving the business environment in Dubai. Dubai Economy has a set of standards to evaluate customer satisfaction on each of its services and protect their rights.

Stressing on the challenges they faced during COVID-19, Al Muhairi added: “Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, the IP Property Protection Department was able to provide all of its services round the clock through its smart channels, and also do necessary follow up before resolving any issue without any inconvenience for customers. This reflects the focus of Dubai Economy in achieving the goals, directives and vision of the Government.”
