KitKat already has group of KitKat flavours including, the original, dark chocolate, two variations of matcha, strawberry, Hojicha, and more recently their wholewheat flour biscuit.
The wholewheat biscuit variation will be priced at ¥129 ($1.20) for a 3-pack, and ¥540 JPY ($5) for a 13 pack, they were released on March 8.
To accommodate customers who are more wary of their nutrition, KitKat developed this latest flavour in an attempt to offer more health-conscious options.
To promote its release, Japanese actress Mugi Kadowaki has been appointed an ambassador for the product.
Further celebrating the newest addition, KitKat has redesigned the packaging for this flavour with an illustration of a woman enjoying a KitKat on a chair, made by Nagaba.
Nagaba creates black and white illustrations, and sells them on t-shirts, totes, books and stickers. Nagaba was born in Tokyo in 1976, and graduated from the department of design at Tokyo Zokei University. He has collaborated with a range of brands including, UNIQLO, ASICS, and G-SHOCK.
