Japanese food lovers can enjoy the flavours of the cuisine at home by learning how to make staple dishes with vegan ingredients by signing up for Tokyo-based culinary school Bentoya Cooking’s online classes in English, priced at ¥3,300 ($30.46).

Recently Bentoya Cooking is offering a special class on August 22, priced at ¥2,200, to teach students how to make vegan ‘chicken’ skewers, coupled with sides like spring rolls, and potatoes.

Participants can also opt to take up standard classes to learn how to make sushi, soy sauce ramen, bento boxes and okonomiyaki—a Japanese savoury pancake.

“BentoYa Cooking is all about reimagining traditional Japanese dishes in a way anyone can enjoy them, regardless of their dietary preferences. We don’t use dairy products, meat or seafood of any kind. Fancy something without nuts or gluten free? We’ve got you covered! Experience one of our Authentic Plant-Based Japanese style cooking classes in Tokyo, Kyoto, Yokohama, Gunma, Kobe or online,” their official website states.

Bentoya Cooking is founded by Akiko Sugawara, a Japanese chef who was raised on a farm where she learned to master family recipes, inspired by traditional practices using “an abundance of whole-foods to create hearty and healthy vegetable heavy dishes,” the website states.

Bentoya not only offers group classes, people looking to learn can also select a private lesson and personalize it by choosing their preferred menu from a range that includes: TanTan Ramen, Dumplings and Sauce, Vegan Soy Sauce Ramen and Spring Rolls, Homemade Udon and Tempura, among many other options.

Most of the private lessons cost ¥8250 and take around 3 hours to make.

Participants that are interested in learning how to cook these dishes can book on the website or get in touch via email.
