The Japan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has shared a preview of the official uniforms to be worn by attendants, designed by ANREALAGE’s Morinaga Kunihiko.

The uniform includes various garments including an asymmetrical jacket, loose-fitting straight-leg pants, a bag, sneakers, and a hat that represent connections “between people, hearts, and cultures,” according to an official statement.

The unisex uniforms include nuanced symbolic elements such as the arabesque and Japanese pattern printed on the jacket, sneakers and bag representative of blurring the boundaries between cultures– tying into Expo’s underlying mission of unification.

Triangles, squares, and circles are a prominent part of these pieces and are also present in the hat created in collaboration with Hirata Ohko of Haute Mode Hirata, which can be altered to depict the shape of a heart when fastened.

Change and diversity is also communicated through the retroreflective material used in the making of the blazer, ASICS shoes, and PORTER bag as it appears white but looks multi-coloured under light.

The Japan pavilion uniforms encapsulate Kunihiko’s artistic vision as the individual pieces are highly detailed and modern.

Aside from exemplifying culture versatility, the uniforms are suitable for both genders, differing body shapes, and are made using eco-friendly materials supplied by Japanese textile company Toray.
