DUBAI: Anticipation for Japan Day on Dec. 11 at Dubai Expo 2020 is growing as the organizers officially announce upcoming welcome events for the celebration.
Festivities at Expo will begin from the morning with one of Japan’s leading taiko drummers Takeru Matsushita and a Japanese taiko drumming group SHOTEN, which was founded in Dubai.
One of the Japan Pavilion’s Ambassadors Tatsuo Kamon will also join in and perform his songs.
Another welcome event on the same day includes a demonstration of Aikido, ‘the art of peace.’ The performance will be done by Cathy Darnell, Sensei 4th Dan, from Zanshinkan Aikido Dubai.
Visitors can also watch as artists combine the traditional Japanese culture of calligraphy called Shodo, with the traditional Asian art of ink wash painting called Suiboku-ga on Japan Day.
Finally, Dubai Expo 2020 announced a dance performance by elementary and junior high school students from the Japanese School in Dubai. They will be performing the dance ‘Nanchu Soran’ to an updated version of the traditional Japanese folk song, Soran-bushi.
