TOKYO: The two young twin pandas, Lei Lei and Xiao Xiao, stars of the Ueno Zoological Garden, were put on display on Wednesday and can be seen until Friday.

The two cubs were born on June 21, 2021. The young male Xiao Xiao weighs 14.60 kg and the female Lei Lei weighs 14.40 kg.

Visitors were selected by a lottery that started in December.

The Ueno Zoological Garden was closed to the public on January 11 and only people who reserved their places were able to see the two stars of the zoo, other than reporters.

Most of the souvenirs at the zoo’s store were related to the two pandas.

Zoo official Ohashi said that on the morning of January 12, nearly 500 people visited the zoo to see the two pandas.

The first panda to be loaned by China to the Ueno Zoo arrived in 1972. Since the Tang Dynasty, China has practiced Panda diplomacy by offering Pandas to help diplomatic relations.
