TOKYO: Algeria and Japan signed an agreement on Thursday to boost economic and trade ties between the two countries.

The Agreement for the Establishment of an Intergovernmental Joint Economic Committee between the Government of Japan and the Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria was signed in Algiers by Japanese Ambassador to Algeria KONO Akira and Noureddine Khandoudi, Secretary General ad interim of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

The agreement calls for the establishment of an intergovernmental Joint Economic Committee for the purpose of formulating strategies to strengthen and diversify economic and trade relations between Japan and Algeria.

The aim of the Joint Economic Committee is to bring together relevant government agencies and business representatives of both countries for regular consultations to facilitate the economic activities of Japanese companies in Algeria.
