BEIJING: Chinese customs authorities said Thursday that it will impose a full-scale suspension of imports of marine products from Japan.
The authorities said that the blanket ban, which took effect Thursday, is a retaliatory measure against Japan starting the release of treated water containing tritium into the ocean from the disaster-stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant the same day.
Repeatedly protesting the water release, China adamantly describes treated water from the northeastern Japan plant as “nuclear-contaminated water.”
