Japan, Palestine FMs discuss Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip

Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko held a telephone talk with her Palestinian counterpart Riad Malki on Oct. 13 amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Kamikawa stated that she is paying close attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip, with great concern.

She stated that Japan unequivocally condemns the terror attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, especially attacks on, and kidnapping of, innocent civilians, which should not be justified on any grounds.

She called on Minister Malki to work on the parties concerned in order for the early de-escalation of the situation. In addition, Kamikawa asked for support to secure the safety of Japanese nationals and both ministers confirmed to cooperate to work together.

Malki explained the position of the Palestinian Authority in the wake of the attack and its response as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip. Minister Kamikawa and Minister Malki concurred on the necessity to improve humanitarian access.

The two officials concurred on continuing to work together for the de-escalation of the situation from the viewpoint of regional stability.
