Palestine Ambassador discusses Gaza situation with Japan’s Foreign Minister

TOKYO: Palestinian Ambassador to Japan Waleed Siam paid a courtesy call on Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko on Monday to discuss the situation in Palestine, particularly the Gaza Strip, which is being attacked by Israel.

Ambassador Siam explained about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and stated that he is deeply concerned about the large number of civilian deaths there.

The Foreign Minister expressed her concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and noted that Japan has provided emergency assistance of $10 million to help civilians there. Ambassador Siam expressed his appreciation for Japan’s assistance for the residents of the Gaza Strip.

Kamikawa stated that Japan has unequivocally condemned the recent terror attacks by Hamas and others, and that Japan has consistently called for the immediate release of hostages and securing the safety of civilians.

She said any actions taken by any of the parties involved in the conflict should be based on international law and she hoped that tensions there could be reduced as soon as possible. 

Foreign Minister Kamikawa and Ambassador Siam agreed to continue close communication and to make efforts toward stabilization of the region, according to the foreign ministry.
