TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio conferred with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi by phone on Wednesday and expressed his appreciation for the cooperation extended by Egypt for the safe departure of Japanese nationals and their families from the Gaza Strip.

Kishida said he welcomed the Israel-Hamas deal for a pause in the fighting in Gaza, the release of hostages and the scaling up of humanitarian deliveries into the Gaza Strip, and expressed thanks for the mediation by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. 

President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for Japan’s humanitarian assistance and explained Egypt’s view on the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo Said.

The two leaders agreed to maintain close cooperation between the two countries and work towards an easing of tension in the region.
