Kishida affirms that Japan supports two-state solution, meets with Israeli president

DUBAI: Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio held a meeting on Friday with Israeli President Isaac HERZOG, during his visit to Dubai for COP28, where they discussed the ongoing conflict happening in Gaza. 

During their 30-minute meeting, Kishida condemned the shooting that took place in Jerusalem on Nov 30, referring to it as a terror incident, and expressed his condolences to the victims and his sympathies to those injured. President Herzog expressed his appreciation for Japan’s clear condemnation. 

The Japanese Prime Minister welcomed the release of hostages and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of continuing the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Gaza and asking for Israel’s cooperation.

Additionally, Kishida shared that the Japanese government supports a ‘two-state solution’ and believes it is important for Israel and Palestine to coexist peacefully. 

The Israeli President explained to Kishida Israel’s current position, including the military actions in the Gaza Strip. 

Kishida and Hertzog agreed to maintain close relations and to cooperate on the situation in the Middle East.
