TOKYO: Arab residents in Japan are believed to be safe from the impact of the Noto earthquake that struck Ishikawa Prefecture in northern Japan on January 1, leaving 55 dead and many injured, and leaving hundreds of buildings destroyed.
“All Jordanian residents in the hard-hit areas have been reported safe and some of them were evacuated to local schools or evacuation centers, as advised by the authorities,” the Jordanian embassy in Tokyo told Arab News Japan.
Other diplomatic sources said citizens of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Sudan, and Palestine who are residents in Japan have been confirmed safe. Sources said most Arabs in Japan are not residents of Ishikawa.
