TOKYO: During an anti-war demonstration held in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo on Sunday, more than 200 demonstrators denounced the signing of an agreement between the United States and Japan for the purchase of 400 Patriot missiles.
The protesters, who gathered near the busy Shinjuku Station, stressed the danger of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, which, they said, risks degenerating into a global conflict. They called for the fall of US President Joe Biden and Japan Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio, and an end to support for the Israeli government.
Meanwhile, NATO countries have been simulating a third world war in one of the largest military exercises since the Cold War, mobilizing nearly 90,000 soldiers.
A student belonging to the Zengakuren student league denounced the arms agreements between Japan and the United States.
Another participant said he believed that Japan was in the process of turning its back on the principles behind the Constitution of Japan, namely the sovereignty of the people, respect for human rights and the renunciation of war.
