Japan to allocate new aid of ¥4.8bn to Gaza

TOKYO: Japan has decided to extend an additional Emergency Grant Aid of 4.8 billion yen (or $32 million USD) in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Japan will implement humanitarian assistance in areas such as food and health by providing aid through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other international organizations.

The government of Japan says it will continue to make persistent and proactive diplomatic efforts to urge all parties to urgently improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and reduce tensions.

From the aid total, $10 million will go to the United Nations World Food Programme and to the World Health Organization; UNICEF will receive $8.5 million; the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will get $3 million; and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs will be allocated $500,000.
