TOKYO: An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter Scale struck near Amami Oshima Island in southern Japan on Wednesday.
The quake registered a maximum seismic intensity of 2 on Oshima and nearby Kikai Island, but there was no danger of a tsunami, and no damage was reported.
The epicenter of the quake was in the ocean to the east of Amami Oshima, at a depth of 70 kilometers.
Amami Oshima is in the Pacific Ocean, 320 kilometers south of Japan’s southern island of Kyushu and 250 kilometers from Okinawa.
