
TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko told her Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Tuesday that Japan is deeply concerned about the attacks by Iran against Israel, which further deteriorate the current situation in the Middle East, and strongly condemns such escalation.
Minister Kamikawa also stressed that the current situation is not in the interest of the international community, including Japan, not to mention that of Iran and the Iranian people, and strongly urged Iran to exercise restraint, stating that further escalation of tensions must be prevented.
Minister Kamikawa also pointed out the importance of freedom of navigation and safety and called for Iran to ensure the safety of navigation in the waters of the region. The two ministers also discussed the situation in Gaza.
Kamikawa requested Iran’s support in securing the safety of Japanese nationals, according to the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo.
The two ministers concurred to continue close communication between Japan and Iran. The talks were held by phone and lasted about 50 minutes.
