TOKYO: Princess Aiko, the only child of Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, made her first appearance in an Imperial garden party in Tokyo on Tuesday.

The princess joined the party held at the Akasaka Imperial Gardens after graduating from Gakushuin University last month.

Some 1,800 guests, including actor Kinya Kitaoji and former Japan Football Association President Saburo Kawabuchi, attended the spring Imperial garden party and enjoyed snacks.

Last spring, an Imperial garden party was held for the first time in the Reiwa era, which started in 2019 amid the pandemic. Neither meals nor snacks were served in the 2023 spring and autumn parties.
