Former UAE Minister of Economy and 5 other Arabs receive 2024 Japan Spring Honors

DUBAI: The Government of Japan announced its decision on Monday to bestow on Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Former Minister of Economy, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star in recognition of his contribution to the relationship between Japan and the UAE.

Serving as the Minister of Economy for about 12 years from 2008 to 2020, Al Mansoori played an important role in the development of economic relations in non-oil sector between the two countries, which includes organizing three business forums with Japan.

The Embassy of Japan in the UAE expressed its heartfelt congratulations to Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori for his distinguished service on the occasion of this bestowal.

Five other prominent Arab figures also received awards including former Prime Minister of Algeria Sid Ahmed Ghozali, who received the highest honor, the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun “for contributing to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Algeria.” 

Ghozali was also a former Foreign Minister. 

The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, was also awarded to former Egyptian Foreign Minister and former Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Nabil Elaraby for helping to strengthen bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and the League of Arab States.

Hassan Mohamed Rafei Al Emadi was granted the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, for strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Qatar. He was formerly the Qatari Ambassador to Japan.

Cairo University Professor Emeritus Karam Khalil will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, for promoting academic exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and Egypt.

The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, also went to Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb for promoting inter-regional exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and the Netherlands.

Those honored will be greeted by Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace from May 9.
