TOKYO: A massive pro-Palestine demonstration occurred in the heart of Tokyo, with thousands of people marching through the streets to condemn the genocide Israel has been committing in Gaza.
The protest began in the bustling Shibuya district, where demonstrators vehemently criticized Israel’s “war of annihilation” of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
They also called on the Japanese government to recognize Palestine as a state and condemn the atrocities committed by Israel’s military occupation.
The march occurred following an escalation of protests on college campuses across Japan.
During the demonstration, protesters waved banners and chanted slogans demanding Israel to stop killing Palestinians in Gaza.
They chanted “Free Palestine,” “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free,” “Boycott Israel,” and “Ceasefire now,” while carrying signs with messages such as “Support the Palestinian resistance movement,” “Long live the resistance,” “Stop the genocide,” “Stop bombing Gaza,” “End the Israeli occupation,” and “Hands off Rafah.”
One of the posters carried a poster branding the Israeli prime minister as a “War Criminal” and called upon the Japanese government to support the International Criminal Court in bringing charges of genocide against Israel, as well as to impose sanctions on Israel.
