TOKYO: Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Tokyo on Friday to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and humanitarian assistance for the millions of displaced persons following the invasion by Israel.
The protesters marched toward the Israeli Embassy in Tokyo, shouting slogans against Israel, that is committing a genocide against the Palestinians and violating international law. They demanded an end to the killing of defenseless Palestinian women and children.
They also demanded the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – who they referred to as a war criminal – and called for Japan and the West to impose sanctions on Israel. One demonstrator carried a banner suggesting the Israeli prime minister should be hanged.
The protesters called on the Japanese government to use its influence to end the war in Gaza and waved banners calling for a free Palestine and an end to the killings.
Demonstrations against the war have been carried out on a weekly basis in Tokyo, as well as at university campuses around the country.
