TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio held a telephone conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian, President-elect of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Monday and discussed the situation in the Middle East.

Kishida conveyed his intention to work together with the new president to further develop Japan-Iran relations, based on the traditional friendly relations Japan has had with Iran over the years.

In an exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East, Kishida expressed a strong hope that Iran would play a more constructive role towards creating peace and stability in the region and working with the international community.

The Prime Minister and the President-elect also exchanged views on Iran’s nuclear issue and agreed to continue communicating in the future.
