TOKYO: Japan has agreed to support Ukraine in the fields of education and science, including hosting a total of 100 university students from Ukraine over the next five years, the education ministry said on Monday.
The agreement was reached at a bilateral meeting in Kyiv that was attended by visiting Japanese education minister Masahito Moriyama.
The two countries will also promote joint research projects under the agreement.
The Japanese government will invite 20 Ukrainian university students each year to study in Japan for a year, and will cover tuition and other costs. High school students and researchers will also be invited to promote bilateral exchanges.
Meanwhile, an initiative will be launched to translate tens of thousands of Japanese picture books into Ukrainian and publish them in the European country.
According to the ministry, Moriyama arrived in Ukraine after leaving Poland by train on Sunday night local time.
