TOKYO: Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. on Wednesday started the fourth round of releases of tritium-containing treated water from its Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant into the sea for fiscal 2024.
According to TEPCO, about 7,800 tons will be discharged in the current round, set to last until Aug. 25. It is the eighth round since the discharges started at the crippled plant in Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan, in August 2023.
The company plans to release a total of 54,600 tons of treated water in the seven rounds slated for the fiscal year ending in March 2025.
