TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko told Iran’s acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani in a telephone conversation on Thursday that any further escalation of tensions in the Middle East would not be in the interests of the international community, according to Japan’s Foreign Ministry.
Kamikawa expressed “serious concern” over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and said that every effort should be made to avoid further tensions. She called on Iran to act in a “rational manner” and to “strongly urge restraint on other relevant entities on which it has influence.”
Kamikawa asked for Iran’s support in securing the safety of Japanese nationals in Iran in the event that there is a deterioration in the situation in the region.
Both sides agreed on the importance of peace and stability in the Middle East and agreed to maintain bilateral communications.
