TOKYO: An earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 4 hit Kanagawa Prefecture to the west of Tokyo on Thursday evening.
The quake registered 4.4 on the Richter Scale at a depth of 10 kilometers in Nakai Town, which is midway between Yokohama and Mt. Fuji.
A larger level 5 earthquake struck in the same area six days earlier.
The quake shook buildings in Yokohama and Odawara and was also felt strongly in Tokyo.
Bullet train services were temporarily suspended on lines between Shin-Yokohama and Atami from 8:20 p.m., but were resumed soon after following safety checks.
The Japan Meteorological Agency has called for people to be alert to the possibility of further earthquakes with a possible intensity of 5.
No tsunami alert was issued.
