Quakes continue in Japan as midnight M 5.1 tremblor strikes Ibaraki

TOKYO: A midnight earthquake with magnitude 5.1 struck northern Ibaraki Prefecture, located on the Pacific Ocean coast, but it did not cause a tsunami, the Japan Metrological Agency reported. 

The earthquake hit at around 0:50 a.m. on August 19th, with a maximum seismic intensity of 5. According to the agency, the epicenter was in northern Ibaraki Prefecture, and the depth of the epicenter was very shallow.

Municipalities and neighboring prefectures, including Saitama and Tochigi, were shaken at a seismic intensity of 3 or higher, with Hitachi city in Ibaraki observing a seismic intensity of 5 lower.
