TOKYO: Japan’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs OKANO Masataka summoned Chinese Ambassador Wu Jianghao on Wednesday after a Japanese student was attacked and injured in the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
Okano expressed his deep concern regarding the incident and asked the Ambassador to take appropriate steps to ensure that no such incident occurs again.
Okano also urged that security be strengthened for Japanese citizens, especially around Japanese schools throughout China, and that every effort be made to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals.
Ambassador Wu told the Vice-Minister it was heartbreaking that such an incident had occurred and said he would work to strengthen the safety of foreign nationals, including Japanese nationals, in China.
Vice-Minister Okano also restated Japan’s serious concerns to Ambassador Wu over the navigation of a Chinese aircraft carrier between Yonaguni Island and Iriomote Island and referred to other “recent actions by China.”
