TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko issued a statement on Wednesday urging the two sides in conflict in Lebanon “to immediately take all measures to prevent civilian casualties.”

“With regard to the recent situation in Lebanon, Japan is strongly concerned about the escalation of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, and deeply saddened by numerous civilian casualties, including women and children,” Kamikawa said, adding that Japan extends its heartfelt condolences to the victims and their bereaved family members.

Minister Kamikawa also said that Japan wants “full implementation of relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, including UNSCR 1701.”

The Japanese foreign minister also urged the parties involved to abide by international law, including international humanitarian law, and “to exercise the utmost restraint to avoid further escalation.”
