TOKYO: Japan has expressed “serious concern” over the incursion by Israeli military forces into Lebanon as it tries to weaken the capabilities of Hezbollah following the assassination of its leader Hassan Nasrallah.
In a statement issued by Foreign Ministry Press Secretary KITAMURA Toshihiro, Japan called for “all parties to exercise restraint in light of the deteriorating situation surrounding Lebanon.”
“In order to prevent further deterioration of the situation, Japan calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah and urges all parties to immediately take all measures to prevent civilian casualties, to abide by international law, including international humanitarian law, and to fully implement relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.”
Japan urged all parties “to make sincere efforts for a diplomatic settlement” without making any suggestions how this could be realized.
