On. Dec. 11, Japan co-hosted with Palestine a Working-level Online Meeting of the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) to consider assistance to the Palestinians from Asian countries.
The meeting, according to the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo, was co-chaired by ANDO Toshihide, Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Dr. Wael Zakout, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Palestine.
During the meeting, the participants demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing the urgent humanitarian, early recovery, and reconstruction needs in Gaza.
They agreed to continue their efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in the region, reaffirming their readiness to cooperate and collaborate in various ways to contribute to peace and stability in the medium- to long-term.
CEAPAD, a regional conference framework initiated by Japan in 2013, plays a crucial role in supporting the Palestinian state-building efforts. It does so by leveraging the resources, knowledge, and experiences of the economic development of the East Asian countries.
The Ministry said this round of meetings was held with the participation of Japan (host), Palestine (co-host), Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, World Bank, Office of the Quartet, OCHA, UNRWA, and Islamic Development Bank.
