TOKYO: On December 19, commencing at 6:20 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Japan’s Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi received a courtesy call by Dr. Muhammad Shtayyeh, former prime minister of Palestine (Member of Fatah Central Committee).

According to the Foreign Ministry, Minister Iwaya welcomed Dr. Shtayyeh’s visit to Japan and expressed his hope that his visit would contribute to the development of Japan-Palestine relations in various fields.

Minister Iwaya also stressed the importance of a ceasefire and the release of hostages, based on his strong sense of urgency regarding the prolonged and serious humanitarian situation in Gaza. He explained Japan’s humanitarian assistance efforts in Gaza and stated that Japan would play an active role towards an early recovery and reconstruction as well.

In addition, Minister Iwaya reiterated Japan’s consistent position in support of a two-state solution and stated that Japan is determined to contribute to realizing Middle East peace.

In his reply, Dr. Shtayyeh expressed his appreciation for Japan’s leading role in the international community and Japan’s longstanding support for Palestine and updated the current situation in the Middle East and the importance of a two-state solution.
