Assets of Japan PM Ishiba’s ministers average 65.17 million yen

TOKYO: The average value of assets of 19 ministers in Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s second cabinet, formed last month, stood at 65.17 million yen, the government said Friday.

The average for assets held by the ministers and their family members was down 7.28 million yen from that for Ishiba’s first cabinet, which had been launched in October.

Among ministers newly chosen for the second cabinet, Justice Minister Keisuke Suzuki had 64.7 million yen of assets, agriculture minister Taku Eto 68.93 million yen, and land minister Hiromasa Nakano 8.94 million yen.

Environment Minister Keiichiro Asao ranked first in the list, with 233.26 million yen. Ishiba had 33.77 million yen. Both figures were unchanged from the previous asset data disclosure.

Suzuki and his wife reported 9.93 million yen in real estate in Meguro and Shibuya wards and the city of Hachioji, all in Tokyo, and Kohoku Ward in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. He also owned 54.77 million yen in financial assets, while his wife held 23 shares in TBS Holdings Inc.

Eto and his wife held 68.93 million yen of real estate in Meguro and Minato wards in Tokyo and in the city of Hyuga, Miyazaki Prefecture. He owned 6,233 shares in six companies under his name, including Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc.

Nakano reported 8.94 million yen in real estate in the city of Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture.

Ishiba’s second cabinet started on Nov. 11.

Subject to the disclosure are the assets of ministers themselves, their wives and their dependent children, such as land, buildings and securities. As for stocks, the numbers of shares held and the names of the companies are disclosed, while the value of the shareholdings is not.
