TOKYO: Representatives of the Japan Uyghur Parliamentary Association on Friday handed an “Urgent Request to Prevent the Forced Repatriation of Uyghurs detained in Thailand to China” to Japan’s Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi.

Representatives of the Japan Uyghur Parliamentary Association – Chair FURUYA Keiji, Vice-chair YAMATANI Eriko, Secretary-General ETO Seiichi, and Chief Secretary ISHIBASHI Rintaro – paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Iwaya to convey their request, and their views on the treatment of Uyghurs in Thailand.

Iwaya stated that Japan is concerned about this matter and the government has been regularly communicating with the Government of Thailand on the issue.

He said that he would take the request into consideration and “respond appropriately.”
