TOKYO: A Japanese minister on Thursday indicated the government's eagerness to help boost output of ventilators and oxygenators, as well as assist the introduction of the equipment at hospitals, in preparation for a further spread of the new coronavirus disease.
The government will consider including in an emergency economic package measures to support the production and installation of the medical equipment, economic revitalization minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said.
Nishimura did not mention details of the possible measures, including a budget amount.
The minister also said the government is developing a system to train personnel more quickly to use extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO, devices for patients with severe symptoms of the COVID-19 disease.
