TOKYO: The Japanese government said Friday it will grant a three-month extension for foreign residents to renew or change their visa status expiring between March and June due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The measure is designed to prevent congestion at immigration offices and lower the risk of infection with the new coronavirus, officials at the Immigration Services Agency said.
The extension also covers foreigners staying in Japan for short periods for tourism and business.
Previously, a one-month extension was given to foreigners with their visa status expiring in March.
