IWAYA Takeshi, Japan’s foreign minister, participated in a G7 meeting regarding the Middle East on Thursday, where he shared that Japan supports the peace and stability efforts in Gaza and Syria. 

Taking place in Canada, the G7 ministers highlighted the importance of peace in Gaza and making further progress in the ceasefire agreement.  

Iwaya shared that Japan would like to play a role in supporting the reconstruction of Gaza through the Council for the East Asian Promotion of Cooperation for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD), a framework for supporting Palestinian development in cooperation with East Asian countries.

Moreover, the Japanese minister reaffirmed his support for a stable and peaceful Syria following the recent clashes in the north-west. He showcased Japan’s efforts to support the country, adding that Japan would like to support the reconstruction of Syria. 

Regarding the nuclear development activities in Iran, IWAYA said that Japan is doing its best to reach out to Iran while leveraging its existing relationship with the country.
