DUBAI: Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and the Special Envoy to Japan, chaired the UAE side at the second Comprehensive Strategic Partnership ministerial meeting in Tokyo alongside the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, IWAYA Takeshi.

Held in the presence of the UAE Ambassador to Japan, Shihab Ahmed Al Fahim, the ministerial meeting discussed opportunities to expand the relations between the two countries in different fields.

The UAE minister showed his appreciation for the evolving relationship between Japan and the UAE within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework. 

Al Jaber’s visit to Japan, which began on Sunday and concludes on Wednesday, also included meetings with MOTO Yuki, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary.

Discussions focused on the economic sectors that can serve both countries and promote sustainability, such as trade, investment, renewable energy, and advanced technology.

Additionally, the UAE minister met with the CEOs of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Mitsui, INPEX, JERA, and Mitsubishi in order to develop the private sector collaboration in the between the nations.

During the visit, the UAE and Japan reinforced their energy partnership as UAE’s ADNOC signed a 15-year Sales and Purchase Agreement with the Japanese company Mitsui & Co. for the supply of up to 0.6 million tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas .

The UAE is currently Japan’s top trading partner among GCC countries, as it receives 52% of Japan’s exports to the GCC, while Japan is the UAE’s ninth-largest global trading partner. The total trade amounts to approximately 7 trillion yen ($49.6 billion US dollars) in 2024.
