OSAKA: Ambassador Walid Siam, Commissioner-General of the Palestine Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025, formally opened the Palestinian pavilion on April 12.

Siam told Arab News Japan that despite the success of the newly opened pavilion, the Israeli government had created logistical challenges for the launch of the Expo exhibit.

“We wanted to import giveaway gifts from Palestine to Japan along with other pavilion products,” Siam said. “However, the Israeli government refused to allow us to ship the products in containers.”

The ambassador said they were forced to resort to using express mailing services. “We need products that will last throughout the duration of the Expo, but due to Israel’s challenges, we now have products that will last one week.”

The opening ceremony was graced by several Japanese parliamentarians and politicians, along with Arab and foreign diplomats and representatives of Japanese civil organizations supporting Palestine as well as Expo visitors, clearly showcasing solidarity.

During the opening ceremony, the Palestinian ambassador delivered a speech expressing his gratitude to the government and people of Japan for their support. He conveyed his hopes for success in this six-month global event.

Visitors at the pavilion were immersed in the rich history and culture of Palestine, with displays showcasing the state’s centuries-old heritage and stunning tourist attractions, offering a unique cultural experience.

The pavilion welcomed an impressive 3,000 visitors on its first day, a testament to the popularity and significance of the event.
