TOKYO: Japan and Iran held their 15th Human Rights Dialogue on April 22 in Tehran, the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said.
During the dialogue, both countries exchanged views, among others, on their respective measures in the field of human rights and cooperation at the United Nations.
The dialogue was led respectively by Hirotaka Matsuo, Ambassador in charge of UN Affairs, Deputy Assistant Minister, Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Amb. Seyed Mohsen Emadi, Ambassador / Assistant to Director-General of Human Rights and Women Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to an expert in Middle East issues speaking to Arab News Japan, this is how the Japanese government has been promoting its initiative for diplomatic engagement with Iran to other G7 countries.
The Japanese highlight the ongoing nature of this dialogue, emphasizing its potential to influence Iran and promote positive changes in its human rights policies, he said.
However, despite years of persistent bilateral efforts and discussions on this human rights issue, the expert observed no significant achievements being made in this area, a concerning observation.
