TOKYO: Japan has decided to dispatch a JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Expert Team to Myanmar to offer further assistance following the huge earthquake that hit the country late last month, the Foreign Ministry has announced.
The team will depart on April 27 and stay in the country until May 3.
The Expert Team will visit Yangon and the earthquake-affected areas, including Mandalay, to assess the situation in those areas and the humanitarian needs.
Since the earthquake, the government of Japan has dispatched a JDR (Japan Disaster Relief) Medical Team, provided emergency relief goods, and extended Emergency Grant Aid through international organizations.
In view of the continuing need for humanitarian assistance, Japan’s government says it will provide as much humanitarian assistance as possible in a manner that directly benefits the people of Myanmar.
Japan dispatched relief teams on April 2 and 8 and has provided aid assistance worth $6 million to the people of Myanmar.
