Japan urges Iran to maintain dialogue over nuclear issue

TOKYO: Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs NAMAZU Hiroyuki and Dr. Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held the Japan-Iran Vice-Ministerial Consultation on Monday, Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported.

Namazu, who is visiting Iran, stated that it is essential for Iran to take constructive and concrete actions to advance talks towards a peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue.

He welcomed the recent talks between the United States and Iran and stressed the importance of dialogue and further cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Namazu also stated that Japan will continue to make diplomatic efforts towards peace and stability in the Middle East.

As well as exchanging candid views on Iran’s nuclear issue, the two sides discussed regional affairs, the bilateral relationship between Japan and Iran and other issues.

Both sides agreed to continue the multilayered dialogue between Japan and Iran.
