TOKYO: Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ERI Arfiya held a telephone meeting with Prince Mired bin Raad bin Zaid of Jordan on Thursday and exchanged views on the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC).
The telephone conversation was a follow-up to the meeting between Eri and Prince Mired at the Fifth Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in November and concerned efforts to increase the number of States Parties and other related matters, Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Eri welcomed the ratification of the APMBC by the Marshall Islands in March this year and stated that Japan would continue its efforts to promote the universalization of the Convention, which is one of the priorities of the APMBC’s 22nd Meeting of States Parties (22MSP) this year.
Prince Mired, a Special Envoy on the Universalization of the APMBC, said he appreciated Japan’s Presidency, especially regarding the universalization of the APMBC.
Eri stated that Japan would make every effort to ensure the success of the 22 MSP and the two sides confirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Japan and Jordan.
