TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi on Monday met with Dr. Khaled El-Anany, Egypt’s former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and discussed bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism, Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported.
One of the topics discussed was the Grand Egyptian Museum, which Japan helped to finance. The grand opening is scheduled for July.
Foreign Minister Iwaya welcomed Dr. El-Anany on his third visit to Japan and expressed gratitude for his support in Japan-Egypt relations.
The two sides “exchanged views in a productive way,” and Dr. El-Anany spoke of his aspiration to be elected as the Director-General of the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
