

TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi met with Libya’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation El-Taher El-Baour on Friday and expressed the hope that Libya’s security situation will continue to improve.
El-Baour, who is in Japan to attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), stated his intention to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Iwaya emphasized the need for stability to develop economic relations and to help Japanese companies play a role in Libya.
Iwaya explained Japan’s cooperation in the field of human resource development, including the acceptance of Libyan students, and expressed his intention to continue collaboration in the field of peacebuilding.
The two sides agreed to continue to work together to respond to various regional and international challenges, including issues in the Middle East, as well as their policies towards North Korea, the United Nations Security Council reform and climate change.
