TOKYO: The Japan Sumo Association plans to conduct antibody testing for the COVID-19 coronavirus on everyone who wants to be tested among its nearly 1,000 members including professional wrestlers and stable masters.

The plan was announced on Wednesday, following the report that wrestler Shobushi has become the first COVID-19 victim in the sumo world. He was also the first confirmed victim among people under 30 in Japan. He had diabetes, according to informed sources.

The antibody testing on sumo association members is expected to take about a month. The association will release the results after they come out.

Based on the test results, as well as advice from experts, the sumo governing body plans to take measures toward holding grand tournaments.
