TOKYO: Tokyo is not ready to discuss with Beijing any specific schedule for Chinese President Xi Jinping's planned visit to Japan as a state guest, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Thursday.

"The most important thing at this moment is to bring the novel coronavirus disease under control," Suga told a news conference, referring to the visit that has been postponed.

The two countries will continue their communication while examining the entire situation, he added.

Lawmakers of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party say Xi's state visit should be canceled, criticizing Beijing's move to introduce the controversial national security law for Hong Kong and Chinese coast guard ships' repeated intrusions into Japanese waters around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture, southernmost Japan.
